Now That’s What I Call Music!
Now That’s What I Call Music! is a series of compilation albums featuring recordings by various artists. The term “Now!” has become a trademark in the United Kingdom and Ireland, and is used on covers of Now That’s What I Call Music!, as well as on later similar-branded compilations.
The first album in the series was released on 10 November 1983 by the Virgin EMI andHMV labels in the UK. The albums have been released annually since then, and an additional Christmas-themed album has been released every November or December since 1985. In 2013, the most recent year for which figures are available, sales of Now That’s What I Call Music! compilations in the UK totalled 3.5 million copies.
What began as a franchise focused mainly on pop music has diversified to include discs devoted to rock, country, dance, R&B/hip-hop, easy listening, novelty songs, and even classical music. In 2004, it expanded into international markets with the release of Now That’s What I Call Music! Asia.
